This summer Inizio Interventions has been holding a social skills group for children with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) that is enjoyed by our staff and the children who attend. The children work on fun activities that focus on fine motor, gross motor, and social skills. These activities include songs, arts and crafts, board games and more. Each week our social skills group has a different theme (color, space, and animals—just to name a few!), and the themes are reflected in the music, activities, and decorations.
When asked what they like most about the social skills group, our team all had different opinions. Our Regional Clinical Director, Bipon, mentioned that she enjoyed creating an environment for our clients to socialize, laugh, and interact with one another. Clinical Supervisors, Daee and Melissa, enjoy decorating weekly for the specific themes and creating a support system for the parents. Behavior Therapist, Pablo, feels it is rewarding to see the peer interactions and noticed there was less prompting needed from adults because the children were imitating each other and following through with the instructions that were given to them.
The social skills group at our Granada Hills office is a success! We plan to continue to hold the social skills group each summer and throughout the year and continue to create this positive experience for the children, parents, and staff.
